Віртуальний музей єврейської історії та культури України — це простір, у якому зібрано багатовікову історію єврейської присутності на українських землях і складну, багатогранну історію українсько-єврейських взаємин. Музей створено як відкриту цифрову платформу, що поєднує наукові дослідження, архівні матеріали, мистецьку спадщину та пам’ять про складний історичний досвід.

Експозиції музею розповідають про традиційне життя єврейських громад, феномен штетлу, розвиток єврейської культури, мистецтва й освіти, а також про модернізаційні процеси ХХ століття. Окрему увагу приділено культурним ініціативам, зокрема діяльності «Культур-Ліги», єврейським театрам, літературі та книгодрукуванню в Україні.

Важливе місце в музеї посідають теми солідарності українських і єврейських інтелектуалів — у роки сталінських репресій, у ГУЛАГу та в дисидентському русі другої половини ХХ століття. Значний розділ присвячено подіям Другої світової війни, Голокосту та їх осмисленню поза межами радянських і пострадянських наративів.

Музей також звертається до пам’яті про Голодомор, Бабин Яр, боротьбу за права людини та свободу еміграції, а також до новітньої історії єврейських громад в Україні після здобуття Незалежності. Окремі зали представляють унікальні артефакти, архіви, документальні фільми, театральні проєкти й освітні матеріали.

Віртуальний музей перебуває на стадії створення, він поступово наповнюється новими матеріалами. Але вже ті зали, які на сьогодні створені, дозволяють скласти уявлення про багату єврейську спадщину в Україні.

 

The Virtual Museum of Jewish History and Culture of Ukraine is an online space that brings together the centuries-long history of Jewish presence on Ukrainian lands and the complex, multifaceted history of Ukrainian–Jewish relations. The museum has been created as an open digital platform that combines scholarly research, archival materials, artistic heritage, and the memory of a difficult historical experience.

The museum’s exhibitions tell the story of the traditional life of Jewish communities, the phenomenon of the shtetl, the development of Jewish culture, art, and education, as well as the processes of modernization in the twentieth century. Special attention is given to cultural initiatives, including the activities of the Kultur-Lige, Jewish theatres, literature, and book publishing in Ukraine.

A significant section of the museum is dedicated to the theme of solidarity between Ukrainian and Jewish intellectuals, particularly during the years of Stalinist repression, in the Gulag, and within the dissident movement of the second half of the twentieth century. A substantial section focuses on the events of World War II, the Holocaust, and their interpretation beyond Soviet and post-Soviet narratives.

The Museum also addresses the memory of the Holodomor, Babyn Yar, the struggle for human rights and freedom of emigration, as well as the recent history of Jewish communities in Ukraine after the country gained independence. Individual galleries present unique artifacts, archives, documentary films, theatrical projects, and educational materials.

The Virtual Museum is currently under development and is gradually being enriched with new materials. However, the galleries that have already been created make it possible to gain an understanding of the rich Jewish heritage of Ukraine.
